Following the lines of Remembering the Kanji, James Heisig and Timothy Richardson have combined forces and authored books intended for those who are studying the Chinese characters, or hanzi. At this time there are two books, one for simplified and the other for traditional characters, available in three languages: English, Spanish and German.

The first book of each course (traditional/simplified) covers the writing and meaning of the 1,000 most commonly used characters in the Chinese writing system, plus another 500 that are best learned at an early stage. The second book (not available yet) will add another 1,500 characters for a total of 3,000 frequently-used characters.
